Agripunica, one of the most promising names in the wine production.
Agripunica is a joint venture betewwn the Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Group, Sardinian winery Cantina di Santadi, Santadi’s President Antonello Pilloni and the legendary Tuscan consulting oenologist Giacomo Tachis.
It was really Dr. Tachis who first thought about the Sardinia and Carignano match and he persuaded all the others in order to produce a fantastic Carignano wine. In 2002 Agripunica bought a land divided into two estates: Barrua and Narcao, situated in the south western zone of Sardinia, in an area known as “Basso Sulcis”. As everyone knew the real potential of this region, after the first harvesting they all agreed on saying-It will be a resounding wine!
Our wine At the moment the Punica Farm produces two great red wines, Barrua and Montessu, and a delicious white wine called Samas. All of them fall under the appellation I.G.T. Isola Dei Nuraghi, originating from tipical Sardinian grapes exceptionally blended with some French varietals.
In the Sulcis the quality of Carignano is excellent, not only for the colour: from tannins to the acid titrant patrimony always temperate and elegant as well as the souplesse of its more relevant components. Its polifenolich wealth is composed by a very delicate tannin tissue, which is round, sweet in a refined manner, chromatically embroidered by refined antociani. These tannins have been polymerized in the grape while it is still pending from the plant. Its extractive belongings are plentiful attesting the sun generousness. The colour is intense, chromatic gift of the nature reminding the Phoenicians purpled red. The white wine Samas is a Vermentino and Chardonnay blend offering distinguishing mineral notes as well as delicious fruity flavours. ORIGINS Red wine form Carignano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes vinified individually in our Narcao and Barrua vineyards from spurred cordon vines cultivated in Basso Sulcis.
SOIL COMPOSITION Medium texture calcareous, clay and sandy soil.
GRAPES 85% Carignano – 10% Cabernet S. – 5% Merlot
CLIMATE Hot and dry in summer, temperate in winter.
HARVESTING Harvested by hand between the second half of September and the middle of October.
VINIFICATION The must is fermented with the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for approximately. 15 days at between 25 and 30C. It is periodically pumped over to facilitate the extraction of the compounds present in the skins. Malolactic fermentation confers softness to the wine, which is then aged in French oak barrels for approximately. 18 months (30% new). It is subsequently bottle-aged for at least a further12 months.
ORGANOLEPCTIC CHARACTERISTICS Technical notes: The quality of the Carignano grape is excellent in the Sulcis area, not only in terms of colour, but also for the softness of its soluble compounds – from the tannins to the consistently low and elegant acidity and the smoothness of its main components. Its polyphenolic apparel is of a distinguishably sweet, extremely delicate, round tannin weave chromatically embroidered with refined anthocyanins.
