TASTING NOTES:

  • Colour: Orange amber gold with medium tears.
  • Aroma: Cereal barley malt, some caramelised sugar and light treacle, hints of vanilla custard and crème brulee, fruity apples and pears, toffee and caramel.
  • Palate: Light and smooth initially, creamy caramelised sugar, caramel, fudge, toffee, vanilla, some spices begin to develop, a light wasabi heat and a little fennel give this a spiced kick.
  • Finish: Medium, balanced between creamy vanilla toffee and drying spiced oak and hints of peat.

Akashi Shin Select Reserve Japanese Blended Malt Whisky

Akashi whisky is the only whisky in the world that is made by a Toji. Toji is a grand-master in the art of sake making. In addition, it implements sake-making methodologies into the whisky making process. The distil pot used is smaller than those used by both Scottish and other Japanese distilleries. They are which in turn, decreases the levels of fusel alcohol. As a result, Akashi whisky does not require as long of an ageing process, while its core malt (cask strength) is smooth and delicate.

We reserve Akashi Shin Select Reserve in Japanese Shochu cask (American Oak) around 3 years. Then, we age this whisky in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in ex-sherry casks for 2 years.
